Alternative Licensure Program Overview

Program Model

This program leverages personalized, project-based, and competency-based learning models to support candidates in the engaged application of knowledge and skills acquired to be a successful teacher or principal.

Program Logistics

• Virtual and local program delivery - minimal travel.

• The program is designed for completion in one year, with an option to extend to two years.

• Candidates are accepted throughout the State.

• Candidates have a local support team including their supervisor, mentor, and a field supervisor.

License Areas

Candidates can obtain a Principal License or Colorado Teacher license in one of the following areas. In addition, we offer an added endorsement for existing teachers in special education.

  • Elementary Education (Grades: K-6)

  • Dance (K-12)

  • Drama Theater Arts (K-12)

  • World Languages (K-12)

  • Comprehensive Health (K-12)

  • Instructional Tech (This is Sunsetting and will be replaced with Computer Science) (K-12)

  • Music (K-12)

  • Physical Education (K-12)

  • Visual Art (K-12)

  • Special Education Generalist (Ages: 5-21) - Full licensure

  • Special Education Generalist (Ages: 5-21) - Added endorsement

  • Ag & Renewable Natural Resources (7-12)

  • Business Education (7-12)

  • Business/Marketing (7-12)

  • English Language Arts (7-12)

  • Family and Consumer Studies (7-12)

  • Marketing (7-12)

  • Mathematics (7-12)

  • Science (7-12)

  • Social Studies (7-12)

  • Speech (7-12)

  • Tech Education (Industrial Arts) (7-12)

Admission Requirements

Alternative licensure candidates must have a passing score on the appropriate content exam, have secured a full-time position in the area in which they seek a license, have the recommendation of a principal or other supervisor, and have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
