Colorado River BOCES Board gives approval to look at expanded services across the member districts.

On November 11th, the Colorado River BOCES Board approved by unanimous consent to move forward with the CRBOCES staff to begin planning to expand services for member districts. Focusing in on four strategic areas, Special Education Services, Student Support, Staff Support and System Support, BOCES staff will work throughout the remainder of this school year in developing implementation plans to expand services in support of the children we serve. The expanded services include:

Working with the Superintendent’s, we have established the following areas to begin working on in anticipation of moving forward by the 2020-2021 school year. The areas are divided into four essential components:


Special Education: It if the intent of the BOCES to maintain and improve quality services for AU and Non-Au members. The refinement of personnel needs and how to bear the cost of services across the BOCES will be determined as we research next steps with all school systems.



Students: The SAC feels there are specific areas where the BOCES can provide high quality student services that support the mission/vision of each member system. The following are the areas that we are anticipating supporting next school year.


  • Yampah Mountain High School Alternative and Teen Parent Programming

  • Planning for a CTE center and infusion of CTE programming in local schools

  • Enhanced concurrent enrollment opportunities and cost reduction

  • Outdoor and Experiential Education Programming

  • Mental Health Support for students

  • Alternative Pathways to Graduation



Staff: The SAC feels there are specific areas where the BOCES can provide high quality staff services that support the mission/vision of each member system. The following are the areas that we are anticipating supporting next school year.

  • Alternative Licensure

  • Induction and Mentor Training

  • Paraprofessional Training and “Grow your own programs”

  • Summer Teacher Education Conference and Travel Abroad Teacher Education Programs

  • Leadership Training for aspiring school leaders

  • Mental Health Support for staff


Systems:  The SAC feels there are specific areas where the BOCES can provide high quality services for each system, that support the mission/vision of each BOCES  member. The following are the areas that we are anticipating supporting next school year.

  • Third Party Investigations

  • Educator Effectiveness Council

  • Administrator Induction and Support

  • Third Party Special Education Services Audits

  • Regional and State-wide Purchasing

  • MTSS Training and Support

  • 504 Training and Support
