Colorado River BOCES - Looking towards the future

posted Mar 11, 2020, 9:49 AM by Ken Haptonstall
Colorado River BOCES is looking towards a bright future. Over the course of this past year, we have been working with our member districts to determine how we can better support our member districts. The superintendent's and board members have worked to define a new Strategic Focus for the next few years. Some of that focus will be to insure we are providing the best special education support we can to the members of our administrative unit. We are also working to expand our work in three other key areas.

1. We will be working to add more support in for the Students we serve. Continuing the great work at Yampah Mountain High school and adding Career and Technical Education support, lower cost concurrent enrollment courses, outdoor  and experiential education programming, mental health support for students and alternative pathways to graduation.
2. Working to provide more opportunities for the Staff members in our BOCES and region. We will continue to grow and refine our alternative licensure program, we have been approved for teacher, principal and administrator induction, we are working to develop paraprofessional courses that can lead to teacher certification, engaging with external partners to provide travel abroad opportunities for educators, developing leadership training for aspiring school leaders, and developing support for the mental health needs for our adults.
3. We will be working to add more support in for the Systems we serve, including hiring a professional development coordinator to support MTSS, 504, mental health first aid and other programming needed in our BOCES and throughout the region.
